Ford raises prices for electric pickups due to significant increase in raw material costs
Ford says the price increase will be between $6,000 and $8,500, depending on the model. The company said the price increase will not affect customers who have ordered vehicles and are awaiting delivery.
Ford's 2023 F-150 Lightning electric pickup now starts at $47,000-$97,000, while the 2022 model will start at around $40,000-$92,000. Prices do not include tax and shipping.
Ford is the latest automaker to raise the price of its latest electric vehicle amid inflation and rising commodity costs. GM previously raised the price of its Hummer EV pickup by $6,250, and EV startups Rivian Automotive and Lucid have seen their vehicles cost more than that. Tesla has also raised pricing on its vehicles this year.
Raw material costs for electric vehicles have more than doubled during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new report from consulting and research firm AlixPartners.
